Outline of secondary sources Among all types of cards, the most common, they are also the most necessary these are note cards. They contain a short summary, key points for quoting are written out, your opinion on the book is summarized, and your parallel ideas and ideas for a possible comparison ofthis material with material from other sources are summarized. Thus, the outline of the card is very different from the bibliographic card described insection III.2.2. Bibliographic gives only information for finding the source, and the abstract map is a concentrated knowledge of the source and, therefore, should be much larger. Use large boxes, approximately a notepad page or a sheet of paper. Well, if it is just cardboard, in any case, dense sheets that can be inserted into a box or stacked, dragging with an elastic band.
The sheet should give in to a felt-tip pen, a ball-point pen and a fountain pen, to absorb ink without being smeared and blurred. Approximate abstract maps of different types are presented in tables No. 7-14. It is not forbidden, and it is even recommended to write on important books on several abstracts, numbering them in order and reproducing indexing on all (the cipher invented by you). There are many types of note-taking. The choice of the scheme depends on the type of memory. Someone needs to write everything, and half a hint is enough for another. Taken in general terms, the typical scheme is as follows: a) output data; b) information about the author (if he is not a known person); c) summary of the text; d) extensive extracts, necessarily quotation marks, from those places that may be needed for quoting, with a clear indication of the page from which they were taken.
Attention! A clear distinction between quotations and paraphrases (see V.3.2); 147 e) your observations: at the beginning, in the middle, at the end of the reading. To protect yourself from the possible confusion of your statements with the author, take your text in square brackets, preferably colored; e) index, cipher, color mark, referring to the corresponding place of the pointer-content. If your outline applies to several points of the plan, put a few labels on the card. If it relates to the entire diploma entirely, stamp it with a special “global” index. To avoid naked theorizing, I will offer you some sample cards. For tables No. 7-14, not wanting to invent something invented, I unearthed the abstract-card of my own thesis “The Aesthetic Concept of St. Thomas Aquinas. Perhaps my note-taking style is not the best in the world.
These cards have a lot of errors against my own teachings. Not enough individual data, while others are, but they are vague. I learned a lot after graduation. Of course, this does not mean that you need to repeat my mistakes I did not correct the style and add to the notes. Consider examples tentatively. Notice that I give only short notes, because I do not take those works that were of decisive importance for my research (for those went to ten cartons for each). These abstract cards are not uniform. Consider them in turn. Croce: this is a small review that is significant only in the light of the author’s high-profile name. The book under review was already in my possession. I wrote out only one important place. Let’s pay attention to the square bracket at the end of the statement:later, after two years, I returned to this material and developed my idea. Bondolillo: The outline is controversial, a fugitive of a neophyte is felt, who is outraged by the underestimation of his favorite topic. This summary allowed me to introduce a little polemical footnote.
